The era of transformation 4.0 brings big changes in the industrial world. Automation, the Internet of Things (IoT), big data, and artificial intelligence are factors that drive this transformation. This was emphasized by the Chairman of the General Federation of Chemical, Energy and Mining Workers' Unions of the Indonesian Workers' Union (SP KEP SPSI) R. Abdullah in front of hundreds of students of Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), last October 5.
The event was a guest lecture from UMM's Sociology Study Program, which focused on practical and empirical studies of industrial relations in the era of the Industrial Revolution 4.0. There was also a signing of a collaboration between UMM and SP KEP SPSI, mainly related to improving human resources.

Furthermore, Abdullah explained that in industrial relations, the transformation has consequences. One of them is work that was once done by humans is now increasingly automated and digitally connected. This has a significant impact on the relationship between workers, companies, and labour unions.
"We are not only witnessing rapid technological development but also the fundamental question of how to create a decent life for everyone. The meaning of decent relates to being able to get clothing, food, shelter, and so on. If there are fewer jobs, a new system is needed. Since every citizen deserves to choose and get a job and a wage," said Abdullah, who also cited the law as a guideline.
According to him, the government has an important role in regulating industrial relations to ensure fairness and balance between employers and workers. They are responsible for creating regulations that protect workers' rights, regulate working conditions, and facilitate dialogue between various parties. Currently, the existing employment relationship is mostly contract workers, interns and seasonal part-timers. Policies that support innovation and sustainable economic growth are needed.

As a result, young people must prepare and play a role. They are not only waiting for the future, but also must move from now on. They must also be able to motivate themselves because they are the ones who will later lead the country.
Meanwhile, Sulismadi M.Si, a UMM lecturer, emphasized that industrial relations are the key to understanding how the production process of goods and services develops. The role of employers, workers, and the government is very important in creating a decent life for everyone. The Reformation 4.0 era has brought radical changes in these dynamics, requiring all parties to adapt quickly. Likewise, social values are evolving. In addition, industrialization in Indonesia cannot be separated from the country's ideology, Pancasila. (*nel/wil/fajr)
