Responding the local election (Pilkada) which will be simultaneously held in 19 regions of East Java on the next December 9 2015, the Government Science (IP) of Muhammadyah Malang University held a general lecture themed “Dinamika Politik Lokal Pemilihan Kepala Daerah Langsung di Indonesia”.
The event was held on Tuesday October 27 2015 at the Hall of Public Administration Bureau (BAU) of UMM, presented Auri Adham Putro, S.Sos, M.Si, which is the alumni of IP UMM, as the speaker. In accord with Auri, the IP students have to play an active role in the process of the election.
Auri states, as the local democracy party, the IP students have to take control of the election stages. “The role of IP students is to watch over the election more wisely, because the election is the important moment to be watched over. Moreover, this is the area of IP students expertise,” said by Auri, an official of Bappeda of Jambi Province.
Auri didn’t forget to motivate the students so that they prepare for their future. “The IP students of UMM have to be optimistic, brave, and also master the science of government,” asserted by Auri who were the best graduates with 3.9 of GPA during his days as UMM students.
Auri expects that IP students are able to master the governmental science along with the constitution (UU) related to the governments as many of local governors aren’t graduated from the Government Science, so that IP students’ knowledge will help them in the future.
The Head of the Government Science Department of UMM, Hevi Kurnia, SIP, MA(Gov), added that the chosen Pilkada theme was due to the issue of Pilkada or Election is a hot and up to date issue, especially the Election of Malang Regency which will be held on the next December. Hevi also stated that the Government Science Department of UMM intentionally invited Auri as he can be the ideal role model for the students of IP.
“Mr. Auri was the best graduates in his bachelor days. He is a candidate of Doctor of the Indonesia University and is currently working on his dissertation of the Election in Bulong Regency of Jambi Province. Mr. Auri also has many experience in Bapedda so that his knowledge will be useful for the students,” Hevi asserted.
Hevi also expects that the confidence of IP students of UMM can improve along with this general lecture. Besides improving the quality of academic, it is also to maintain the good relationship with the successful alumni at the same time. “This can be said as networking because IP UMM will establish the cooperation with Bungo Regency of Jambi Province in the future,” Hevi asserted.
