The University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) innovates much to advance the nation. For example, the university facilitates its students through the Center of Excellence (CoE) program, which many local and international parties have appreciated. Due to this program, the CoE of UMM has generated many creative young people with skills to market needs. Eventually, they can immediately work in many sectors, like Ahmad Faturokhim, the CoE participant who was an alumnus of the Aquaculture Department of UMM.

Starting with his love for shrimps and ponds, he initiated to join the Shrimp Cultivation Class of the CoE designed by the White Campus — the alias of UMM. Additionally, his experience in shrimp farming for a long time supports his interest in following the class.

Once graduating from the university and the CoE class in 2022, Ahmad immediately embarked on running his shrimp cultivation business in Panggul Sub-district, Trenggalek Regency. Interestingly, he manages to gain a turnover of approximately 400 million annually.

"If I calculate, the turnover that can be obtained is around 100 million per three months. So I can possibly earn 400 million for one year," said Fatur.

Besides Fatur, one of the CoE alumni successfully recruited by PT Indotama Seraya is Danny Shevarivo. He joined the Human Resource and Development (HRD) Class of the CoE. Also, this program allows Danny to graduate fast, within 3,5 years.

He explains that the CoE HRD has given him new experiences and industrial skills. Danny even was certified by the National Board for Professional Certification (Trans.: Badan Nasional Sertifikasi Profesi [BNSP]) at the HRD staff level. "In addition, I also received 10 excellent competencies and a work experience letter from a related company. After undergoing the CoE program, I was also successfully recruited and immediately began working at the relevant company albeit I hadn't graduated yet," said he.

Until now, the CoE program has more than 40 classes, like shrimp cultivation, metaverse, School of Creative Digital Communication, welding inspector classes, etc. The business and industry fields can directly recruit most, while some can start their own businesses and open job opportunities for the community.

Related to this, the Rector of UMM, Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd., emphasizes that superior programs like the Center of Excellence (CoE) classes must continue to appear and be managed carefully. Uniquely, this program also seeks to anticipate the transfer of student interests different from their majors.

"CoE can't depend only on textbooks. If so, this program only goes on passively without a significant process. UMM will make it flexible and bravely innovative," said the Rector.

Fauzan also says that CoE helps the nation prepare and welcome Golden Indonesia 2045. Moreover, Indonesia has begun to enter the moment of demographic bonus, which must be maximally utilized to achieve the dream of becoming a country with strong economic power. (imh/wil)
