THE WORKSHOP of The Implementation of Internal Quality Evaluation (EMI) held in Courtroom of Law Faculty of University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) on Saturday (29/8) became the right moment for Academic Quality Assurance Bureau (BKMA) UMM to emphasize the importance of the good management of document and academic administration on each study programs in UMM.
According to the Chairman of BKMA Prof. Dr. Ir. Noor Harini, MS, EMI is really important to figure out how far the development and progress achieved by each study program and faculty are. For her, any form of evaluation leads to better quality.
“The data of quality evaluation on each study program was obtained internally. It is not for publication. We are not only planning, doing, checking and taking action, but also mapping out the development of the study programs,” she said.
This event was participated by the heads of study programs (Kaprodi) from all the faculties of UMM. These Kaprodi then will implement the EMI in their programs. Initially, the concept had implemented in 2011. In that time, the only faculty that conducted EMI was the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP). This was because the EMI was first proposed by the Institute of Teachers Education (LPTK) which organized the format that compatible with FKIP. In the same year, UMM was awarded “The Best Practice of LPTK” from Jakarta.
Specifically, EMI has three main targets: to know the exact quality of the study programs or agencies according to the quality standard proposed by the institution which evaluates, to encourage the study programs or agencies to revamp quality, and to use the evaluation result as the media for study programs and agencies to promote their quality.
In UMM, there are levels of the implementation of academic evaluation. “At university level, we have BKMA, at faculty level; we have Academic Quality Assurance Commission (KKMA), and we have Academic Activity Coordination Team (TKKA) at study programs level,” Harini said.
Meanwhile, the second session speaker of the event, Dr Moch. Agus Kresno, M.Kes emphasized the importance of providing valid and reliable data for the evaluation of internal quality of the study programs. ”Do it maximally, but don’t forget to give corrections. I don’t expect maximal but invalid and unreliable result,” he stated.
Besides EMI, there is also a similar program called ‘Simutu”. Noor Harini confirmed that it is a portal containing information of quality assurance ranging from university to study programs level.
“Ideally, all these portals will be filled. This is where the students play their roles as respondents that have to fill the evaluation, for examples, the system and learning process evaluation. This is because students are part of stakeholders. Therefore, EMI and Simutu are two integrated evaluations,” she said.
Moreover, she added that this event is a small part of the process of evaluation that ends on the gradual increase of each study program’s quality. The whole process leads to the attaining of faculty and university accreditation.
“BKMA UMM has passed the first phase selection of the best Indonesian website competition. On the early September, we will be invited for the second phase in Jakarta,” she ended. (ich/han/t_far)
