The University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) consistently pursues steps towards internationalization. Most recently, five study programs from the Faculty of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry (FAAH) UMM are preparing for international accreditation, as follows: Agrotechnology, Animal Husbandry, Aquaculture, Food Technology, and Forestry. The international institution conducting the accreditation process is the Akkreditierungsagentur für Studiengänge der Ingenieurwissenschaften, der Informatik, der Naturwissenschaften und der Mathematik (ASIIN), organised for mid-February. This institution originates from Germany and focuses on engineering, mathematics, science, agriculture, and biology disciplines.

During their visit to UMM, one of the assessors, Dr. Sonja Kleinerts, expressed appreciation for the various outstanding programs offered by FPP UMM. This appreciation is heightened because the agricultural and animal husbandry sectors are closely intertwined with people's livelihoods, especially concerning basic needs fulfillment.

"Regarding the innovative programs implemented by UMM, I highly appreciate them, especially considering that agriculture and animal husbandry are primary commodities for humans," Kleinerts added.

Meanwhile, during a sharing session with ASIIN representatives, UMM's Rector, Prof. Dr. Nazaruddin Malik, SE., M.Si., emphasized the importance of enhancing educational quality. Until now, the White Campus (Kampus Putih) has continued to strive for this through various means, including improving the quality of teaching staff and providing adequate facilities for students, both physically and non-physically.

"It is time for UMM to fully internationalize. Several programs have already received international accreditation from FIBAA, AUN-QA, and others. UMM has also been ranked as the number 1 private Islamic university in the world according to Unirank and has achieved various other accolades," he explained.

Furthermore, Nazar also elaborated on UMM's innovative program, the Center of Excellence (CoE). This flagship program of the White Campus aims to enhance professional skills for students. CoE has already been implemented by five study programs that have been submitted to ASIIN. Many graduates of these CoE programs have been accepted into the professional world alongside the Business and Industrial Sectors (DUDI).

"In FPP UMM, there are CoE professional classes for ruminants, poultry, cocoa, shrimp, koi, the plant seed production industry, and essential oils. These are professional classes that form the flagship programs and teach students directly in the field for one semester," he concluded.

There are various benefits associated with international accreditation, ranging from recognition in the international education community to the enhancement of educational quality. Additionally, it can attract foreign educators to impart their knowledge at the university. (faq/wil/fajr)
