Cultural Institute Involved in Establishment of Cultural Center in New Zealand

LK team of UMM, team of Ministry of Education and Culture Republic of Indonesia and cultural community in Auckland after the inauguration ceremony of AUTIC.

The Cultural Institute (LK) of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) is involved in establishing the Auckland University of Technology-Indonesian Center (AUTIC) in New Zealand. This institution is established as the result of the cooperation between the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemdikbud) Republic of Indonesia and Auckland University of Technology (AUT).

That is why at the inauguration ceremony of AUTIC in Auckland, New Zealand which was held at the end of August (30/8), the Secretary of LK Dr Iis Siti Aisyah MT and activist LK Arina Restian MPd participated in entourage of Kemdikbud. During a week in Auckland, LK team also visited several Muslim communities and cultural communities in the city.

The communities visited are Warna Indonesia, IDZ-NZ community and the Auckland Indonesia Muslim Society (Humia). As an appreciation for the work of some communities, LK has prepared the book "Diaspora Pejuang Budaya" written by Iis Siti Aisyiah and with the team, for the New Zealand series.

About AUTIC, Iis Siti Aishah said, the idea of the founding of AUTIC is as the result of doing observation of several communities done by Indonesian cultural activists in Auckland. It was then appreciated by Kemendikbud RI and a media promotion of Indonesian culture. The idea was welcomed quickly by Kemendikbud to be realized more by involving the Embassy of New Zealand in Wellington.

Iis said, "Alhamdulillah, on August 30, 2017, AUTIC was officially opened by the Ambassador of Indonesia Mr. Tantowi Yahya and Mr. Mc. Cormack, Rector of Auckland University of Technology. On that occasion, there was also the handover of a set of Javanese gamelan, Tifa Papua and Papuan wood painting between representatives of Kemdikbud and AUT, ".

LK UMM also handed over East Java Batik Book published by LK UMM, Bedhayan Gagrak Sumirat dance CD created by Arina Restian, and five characters of Mask Malangan Furthermore, Iis said "AUTIC will provide many information about Indonesia and cultural training," (lus)
