ASEAN Psychology Conference in UMM

The Rector UMM, Fauzan, opened 2nd ASEAN Conference on Psychology and Humanity. The conference was attended by 150 psychology experts and enthusiasts in South East Asia.

Psychology Master Program of University of Muhammadyah Malang (UMM) held the 2nd ASEAN Conference on Psychology and Humanity on last Friday and Saturday, December 19-20. Going with the theme of “Optimalizing Human Strength for Productivity and Well Being”, the conference discussed about 117 journals in psychology field parallelly.

The conference was attended by 150 participants consisted of ASEAN psychology experts and enthusiasts. Some of the big name participants were Prof. Dr. Mohd. Zahidi H Hajazi (University of Selangor, Malaysia), Mr. Sopon Satornsumritpol (Ramanggala University of Technology Thanyaburi, Thailand), Dr. Iswinarti, M.Si (UMM), Dr. Agnes Del Rosario Crisostono (Bulacan State University, Philipines), Dr. Syed Muhammad Syed Abdullah (University of Sains, Malaysia), Dr. Lisnawati Ruhaena (University of Muhammadyah Surakarta), Prof. Dr. Nilar Kyu (University of Yangon, Myanmar) and Dr. Diah Karmiyati, Psi (UMM).

The Head of UMM Master Program of Psychology, Dr. Isniwarti, M.Si, stated that issues in psychology and humanity are needed and important to discuss internationally. “We can optimalize the human strenght through this conference,” she asserted.

She said that UMM as the accreditated “A” university and had a wide international relation played important role in the development of psychology. “This is one of UMM contributions in optimalizing the psychology and humanity,” she asserted.

Meanwhile, the UMM Rector, Drs. Fauzan, M.Pd, in his opening speech stated that one of the various international cooperation programs of UMM, ASEAN Benchmarking Program, has three development focuses.

“The first focus is to locate UMM within the universities in ASEAN. The second is to learn best practices applied by ASEAN universities, and the last is to seek an opportunity to develop the cooperation among ASEAN universities,” he asserted.

Fauzan also stated that UMM has the student exchange program as the preparation in facing ASEAN Community (MEA) through Learning Express (LeX) program. “We cooperated with Singopre Polytechnic (SP) and Kanazawa Institute of Technology in this LeX program,” he asserted.

Fauzan also welcomed the conference participants. He said that everyone who cooperated with UMM had already become a part of UMM family. “They are not only friends but also families to us.” (gas/han)
