National Seminar themed “Realizing an Enjoyable and Exciting Arabic Language Education in Muhammadiyah Universities” was held by University of Muhammadiyah Malang and University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta. The Head of Arabic Education Department, Ahmad Fathoni, Lc., M.Ag revealed that nowadays people still think that Arabic is difficult to understand. In fact, Arabic is spoken as an international language that gives opportunities to support someone’s career. Fathoni said, “Arabic is used to understand the Qur’an and Al-Hadits. Besides, the graduates of Arabic education of UMM (PBA UMM) who can speak Arabic can be an educator, translator, or entrepreneur”.
The ones who can speak Arabic have big opportunities to work in tourism sector and get big income. For instance, when King Salman and his families came to Indonesia couple months ago, many Arabic translators were needed. Fathoni said, “Currently, there are many Arabic people came to Indonesia. On the other hand, only little number of people can speak Arabic. Arabic students can implement the theories they get in class because they have tourism course”.
Fathoni gave some tips how to make Arabic class enjoyable. The way is students must like the lecturer. “If you like your lecturer, you will easily gain knowledge and you won’t be stressed”.
There was a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) signing between UMM and UMY. The Head of Arabic Education Department of UMY, Talqis Nurdianto, LC, M.A revealed that this cooperation is an effort to increase the quality of Arabic Education Department. Talqis said, “We cooperate with Muhammadiyah universities that are acrredited A to do research, seminar, journal script, faculty staff exchange, and lecturer staffs. We also cooperate in doing E-learning. For example, the score of Nahwu exam that is obtained through E-learning can be acknowledged”. (lus)
