Ghozi Khamaluddin Daffa, a student from the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), is currently studying at University College Cork (UCC) in Cork City, Ireland. He earned this opportunity by receiving the Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA) scholarship. Ghozi, as he is fondly called, will be studying there until December.

The academic life at UCC has given Ghozi an unforgettable experience. He feels that the classroom atmosphere in Ireland is quite different from what he is used to in Indonesia. "One thing I find most interesting is the class dynamics—straightforward but still friendly. Their punctuality culture is also cool and relaxed, as long as the final goal of the module is achieved. Ghozi is also impressed by the flexibility of attendance. Students are expected to take responsibility for completing assignments without having to always be present," he said.

In addition to studying, Ghozi also had a valuable cultural experience at the Culturise event, which brought together international students. At the event, Ghozi and his fellow IISMA students introduced batik to students from various countries. He explained the different types, how to make it, and more. "At first, it was a bit complicated, but the interaction was really fun. Seeing their enthusiasm for our culture was truly impressive, especially since batik is one of Indonesia’s most fascinating cultural artifacts," he shared.

Apart from academic life, Ghozi is also interested in the transportation infrastructure in Cork, which supports pedestrians and cyclists. In this city, many people prefer walking or cycling due to well-developed bus routes and a comfortable environment. Private vehicles are also not as common because the public transportation system is more accessible.

Ghozi’s favorite spot on the UCC campus is Boole Library, specifically the "red zone" area. This library requires students to maintain a quiet atmosphere so that visitors can focus on studying and working on assignments. "It’s really comfortable for studying. In Indonesia, we might rarely find something like this," he said.

Upon returning to Indonesia, Ghozi hopes to help his friends at UMM who want to achieve international scholarships like IISMA. "I was able to get accepted to IISMA thanks to the support and mentoring from friends, so I want to help others as well. That's why I plan to hold discussions and share tips and tricks for studying abroad. I also won’t forget to bring innovations to benefit the local community," he explained. (vin/wil/fajr)
