Not lost in his feelings of confusion, Zulfa Setyoko Pamungkas turned negative emotions into literary works. The poem created by a student from the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) won a silver medal and beat dozens of other participants. Last December, he won the silver medal at the Muhammadiyah and Aisyiyah College Student Art Week event held by the Lembaga Seni, Budaya, dan Olahraga Muhammadiyah (LSBO).

According to Zulfa, as he is familiarly called, literary works in any form are a medium to vent all complaints about their problems. Instead of venting his anger and issues into negative things, he said that creating a literary work was a better choice for him.

"This also applies to the poetry I wrote at the Muhammadiyah and Aisyiyah College Student Art Week. There I imagined and asked questions about the chaotic condition of the family. Even though the family should be a place of calm and shelter," said the student majoring in Indonesian Language Education.

Furthermore, Zulfa admitted that the making of this poem was quite fast. After getting inspired in the middle of the night, he began writing his hour-long poetry around two in the morning. Polished some parts and finally found a suitable composition of the poem. After a night of writing, the student who was born in Bojonegoro immediately sent his work to the committee at precisely seven o'clock in the morning on the last day of closing the collection of works.

"Writing this poem can be done quickly because I am used to writing. I often write and perform poetry musicals with the Malang Aksara Studio community. However, this is the first time I have participated and won a competition," said Zulfa.

The second of three children revealed that he was initially unsure of getting a silver medal. However, he is very grateful for the achievements that have been made. According to him, this medal is a particular form of appreciation for his poetry.

"Poetry makes my life calmer and more colorful. I hope to be consistent in working, creating poetry that moves the heart. Hopefully, I will also be given the joy of life to keep working and innovating," he said. (cdr/syi/wil)
