Over time, technological developments began to enter various sectors, one of which was the health sector. Seeing this, a group of students from the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) designed a smart pen medical record. The design contained in this student creativity program (PKM) will provide access to the Internet of Things (IoT)-based patient medical history data. The PKM passed the funding from the Directorate General of Higher Education (Dikti) of the Republic of Indonesia (RI).

Anwar Syaddad, the team leader, explained that this idea emerged from his brother's anxiety regarding developing technology and health care in Indonesia. According to him, most of the existing health services are still done manually. Departing from that anxiety, the UMM student team pioneered the Smart Pen idea. The idea has been worked on and registered since the beginning of 2022.

"Especially considering the state of foreign health services that have used technology well. While in Indonesia, it is still manual, even though technology has moved forward," he said.

Anwar, his nickname, again explained that this Smart Pen has a working system to detect medical records automatically with the fingerprint feature. So, when patients want to check their medical records, they only need to scan their fingerprints on the Smart Pen. Automatically the related patient's health track record will be out so that the medical record process does not require a long time like the current conventional system.

This Electrical Engineering student explained that an additional attractive feature is the oximetry detection feature. This other feature helps add and know the oxygen saturation data in the body. So that besides being able to be used to check medical records, it can also see the patient's oxygen condition.

During the work, one of the obstacles they faced was access to medical record templates. It can not be separated from the key, which is now still very private. So he and the design team were quite confused. While working on it, Anwar designed it himself. He was accompanied by Nahiva Nur Allyza (Medicine), Muhammad Akbarul Rahmadani (Medicine), Dinda Putri Savira (Nursing), and Janu Dea Siska (Management), who were members of the same team.

This Pamekasan native hopes this Smart Pen tool can be realized and used in hospitals. That way, the medical record process that usually takes a long time can be shortened. "The big hope is that the tool, which is still in the design process, can be implemented in existing services in health agencies," he explained. (cdr/haq/wil)
