A total of 1700 koi fish enlivened the Malang Koi Show, a collaboration event between the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) and the Malang Koi Club. Held on Saturday (27/8), the koi fish competition was opened symbolically by the Regent of Malang Drs. Sanusi, MM. and UMM Chancellor Dr. Rector Fauzan, M.Pd. by releasing the koi fish into the aquarium.
The competition is one of three series of events available. The other two were the koi business meeting and the launching of the Koi Center of Excellence (CoE) owned by the UMM aquaculture study program. There are several prestigious trophies up for grabs in the Malang Koi Show. Starting from the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, the Director General of Aquaculture KKP RI Cup, the Malang Regent Trophy, the UMM Chancellor's Cup, to the Indonesian Gospel Institute Rector's Cup. The participants also came from various regions throughout Indonesia to win it.
Sanusi considered that UMM always captures the potential and opportunities that can be developed. One of them is evidenced by the launch of the CoE School of Koi expertise. From an economic point of view, the fish business is quite profitable. Sanusi said that in an area of half a hectare, overlapping can generate 350 million in six months. So in a year can get 700 million.
"When compared to the income of rice farmers, in six months it reaches 40 million and a year 80 million. So the fish business is certainly profitable, especially in the Koi fish business. So, Malang Koi Show is a good agenda to develop the koi fish business and as an educational effort," he added.
Fauzan conveyed the same thing. According to him, Malang Koi Show is one of the driving forces for the Koi professional class to develop. Moreover, so far, UMM is the only university that has CoE Koi.
The development of dozens of CoEs at UMM is not without reason. Fauzan emphasized that 2030 will be the beginning of the peak of the demographic bonus. So with CoE, it is hoped that qualified human resources (HR) will be born in welcoming the demographic bonus. Even by welcoming the golden era of Indonesia in 2045 later.
Currently, university graduates have not adequately answered the problems in society and the needs of the Business and Industrial World (DUDI). Most of them have to undergo training for six months to a year to become ready-to-use human resources for industry needs.
“So dozens of professional school CoEs from UMM were here to bring fresh air to answer that. When people need human resources who are experts in the field of Koi fish, UMM can provide them. Even in the fields of orchids, cocoa, shrimp, poultry, and others," said Fauzan ending. (wil)
