The Laboratorium Psikologi Terapan (LPT) Psychosocial was a manifestation of UMM's dedication to the field of Psychology. Directly sheltered by the Faculty of Psychology, the Psychosocial LPT has accompanied the community massively since the events of the Gerakan Aceh Merdeka (GAM), the Poso Conflict, the Aceh Tsunami and more recently in the Palu and Donggala Earthquakes.
Psychosocial existence has been mostly regarded as limited to disasters. Even though this is not the case, as said by Alifah Nabilah Masturah, S.Psi., M.A, the staff of LPT Psychosocial. "Actually it can also be for PLWHA and other traumas. The point is mental (psychic, red.) That is treated in psychosocial, "he said.
Indeed, many of the stigmas about psychosocial were not right. Presumably, psychosocial was only taking care of survivors' children after a disaster. Alifah pointed out, the realm of psychosocial action was actually wider. "The volunteers are divided into several parts, including dealing with children, mothers and fathers," he explained.
The approach to every age was certainly different. Psychosocial identity for children was certainly not right. Besides that, Psychosocial was not the only action during a disaster. Psychosocial can also provide treatment for examplePeople living with HIV/AIDS(PLWHA). "We provide treatment to be ready to face the social," Alifah said.
The duration of psychosocial treatment in a disaster event was usually no more than a month. This was because volunteers also need new energy to provide psychosocial treatment. So far, the most massive cooperation was with the Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Center (MDMC).
Dean of the Faculty of Psychology, Muhammad Salis Yuniardi, S.Psi, M.Psi, Ph.D, Psychologist. Explained the Faculty of Psychology consistently sent its best personnel to provide Psychosocial services to victims of disasters and conflicts. The volunteers have been provided with various competencies directly by the Psychosocial LPT.
Besides being cooperated with MDMC through Psychosocial LPT, UMM was doing a lot of service to the victims of the disaster which experienced a number of regions in Indonesia. One of them was through the thematic scheme of Community Service (KKN) placed in Palu, Central Sulawesi.
Including what was done by UMM General Hospital which sent doctors and nurses to Donggala, Central Sulawesi. As of October 2018, volunteers from the UMM Hospital went directly to one of the affected areas. These various actions were in accordance with the vision of the Islamic Hospital which upholds the vision of humanity.
In the near future, on January 13, 2019, Psychosocial LPT will hold a Basic Psychosocial Training for students and the general public. Maybe, the LPT Psychosocial UMM will send its volunteers to help restore the trauma of the victims of the Tsunami disaster in the Selat Sunda.(Win)
