Through Interfaith Break-Fasting , UMM Develops Harmony of Pluralism

University of Muhammadiyah Malang cooperated with Forum of Religious Harmony and Association of Indonesian Chinese held silaturrahim and break-fasting together (18/6) at Sengkaling Convention Hall.

ViceRector II UMM, Dr.Nazaruddin Malik stated that this silaturrahim was initiated to strengthen the position of UMM in maintaining the nation’s pluralism asoneof its business charity. This pluralism could be seen by the existence of the students who come from many regions and have different background of ethnic and religions. “This pluralism can be an instrument to destruct the development of the nation”.

The head of Forum for Religious Harmony (FKUB) Malang, Drs H A Taufik Kusuma said that this silaturrahim becomes an important moment to build a stronger togetherness. Besides, silaturrahim is important to reaffirm the harmony of religious communities in the midst of the national issue related to religious tolerance. "The principle of Muhammadiyah for the Nation is manifested here, because the campus is labeled by Islam but still welcomes to peiople who have from various religions, tribes, and cultures,"

This event was also attended by representatives of the six religions in Indonesia. The atmosphere seemed intimate and warm. The Chinese people gavethe warmth of hospitality after performing the Maghrib Prayer in congregation.

At the endof the event, Widodowho isfrom the Chinese ethnic group stated that UMM does not only apply plurality in the normative spherebut alsohas made a real movementin the diversity.He said"Muhammadiyah became a locomotive to be a tool to develop society,".(lus)
