Being a librarian is a very rewarding job in a college. This is because librarians are able to bring the spirit of agents of information literacy. That was stated by the Head of the East Java Indonesian Higher Education Library Forum (FPPTI), Melati Purba Bestari, S.Sos. who is the Head of Library Promotion at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM)
The woman who is often called Melati explained that it all started with her passion for reading and books. Every day she always carries books and magazines and reads them everywhere. One of her favourites, when she was young, was Bobo magazine and also Hai Magazine.
“From a hobby that I like, I finally found information on the major that suits me. In the end, majoring in librarianship became my way to work, especially things related to books and libraries,” he explained.

Melati has achieved several achievements while working at UMM, such as obtaining certification in the collection development cluster, becoming a trainer, and many others. In addition, in 2020 she and the UMM team won a national scale competition held by the National Library.
Interestingly, she also considered that being a librarian had to network with others so that his knowledge would continue to grow. So, he plunged and was active in FPPTI. Thanks to her experience, achievements, and activeness, Melati managed to climb the ladder to become Chair of the East Java FPPTI.
"Initially I joined FPPTI in 2013. In that year I became secretariat, then became secretary 2 in 2016, until finally I was elected chairman of FPPTI East Java for the 2022 to 2025 period," he said.

Even though she was elected, she was worried about this trust because she was relatively younger than the others. However, she is determined and believes that those who are young also have great courage and creativity. Especially with UMM support which covers many things. So that he believes she can carry out the mandate properly.
She also wanted to explain that being a librarian is not an easy job. Many people look down on them, even though many interesting and complicated things exist. "I want this profession to be reckoned with by society because it is indeed very strategic in providing readings and scientific articles to build human resources," she said. (cdr/ros/wil)
