To reinforce its commitment to enhancing the spiritual and religious quality of its academics, the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) introduced the Development of Quranic Literacy Program (DQLP). The program was officially launched on September 4, 2024, and was attended by various members of the academic community, including lecturers, educational staff, and university leaders from the Kampus Putih.
Regarding this program, UMM's Vice Rector V for Al-Islam and Muhammadiyah Affairs (AIK) and Human Resources, Prof. Dr. Tri Sulistyaningsih, M.Si., emphasized that DQLP is an essential initiative. She highlighted the importance of the Quran in the lives of Muslims. According to her, many individuals who have studied the Quran feel they have achieved perfection, while there is always room to enhance and refine one’s recitation.

The DQLP program is designed for deepen understanding and correct Quranic recitation. It focuses on five main categories, known as the 5T: tartil (proper recitation), tahsin (improving recitation), tafsir (interpretation), tahfidz (memorization), and tilawah (reading).
"Each category will be guided by mentors who are experienced and competent in their fields. With these categories, the program is expected to cater to academics with varying levels of Quranic understanding," she explained.
Furthermore, Tri mentioned that DQLP classes will be held once a week, starting on September 28, 2024. “This is not just about achieving administrative performance points (KPIs), but more about balancing religious knowledge with academic learning,” she added.
Main speakers at the launch included Dr. M. Saad Ibrahim, MA, and Prof. Dr. Imam Suprayogo. They provided profound insights into the importance of applying the Quran in daily life, sharing their experiences teaching and implementing the Quran in various contexts. According to them, every verse that is read and understood should be reflected in one's attitudes and behaviors, which is the essence of living according to the Quran.
The presence of these speakers added a deeper dimension to the DQLP launch. They not only provided theoretical knowledge, but also shared inspiring stories illustrating how the Quran can guide every aspect of life.
Also present was UMM's Vice Rector II, Dr. Ahmad Juanda, Ak., M.M., CA., who officiated the program. In his remarks, he emphasized the importance of the program in fostering better behavior among all UMM academics.

He also acknowledged that starting a new program comes with its own challenges, but emphasized the importance of effort and patience in its execution. DQLP is designed not only as a learning tool but also to internalize Quranic values into the daily lives of academics.
Additionally, DQLP is expected to become an integral part of spiritual development at UMM, aligning with the university’s vision and mission, which emphasize a balance between scientific knowledge and Islamic values. (Ri/Wil)
