Time and device limitations do not hinder the spirit of Muhammad Syahrullah. Sr to participate in various essay competitions. Due to his persistent effort, this University of Muhammadiyah Malang student successfully won third place in the National Grand Arts and Olympics Week event by the end of last month.
Syahrul - his nickname - said that his essay raised the theme of Pancasila in the context of the history of Indonesia. He claimed he only needed one day to write the essay, from brainstorming, drafting, revising, and submitting. The Shari’a Economics of UMM student said that time management is the most important key to finishing the essay.
“I wrote the essay from ten am until twelve am. Because I do not have a personal computer, I utilize Microsoft Word on my smartphone. It is even more difficult because my smartphone is already old, so it often hangs. It does not stop there; also, I face difficulties listing references using Mendeley. Hence, I borrowed my friend’s computer in the final hours before the deadline,” said the Student of Batch 2022.
Regarding the motivation to participate in the competition, Syahrul said that he wanted to utilize the semester holiday to create various achievements. Besides, he can improve his literacy skill by joining competitions, primarily in essay writing. Moreover, the theme of this competition also attracted Syahrul, Moderation, and Pancasila.
“As for the theme of this essay, Pancasila does play an essential role in the life of Indonesians. It is not limited to identifying the role of Pancasila in generating the nations, understanding Pancasila to help develop a national identity, maintain political stability, and promote social and economic development. It also applies to ensuring that each individual’s rights are recognized and protected,” said the Makassar student.
Syahrul explained further that he did not exceedingly expect to win the competition. If he lost, Syahrul said that this competition would be a valuable experience for him.

“I feel grateful that UMM always encourages its students to make achievements and reward those who are accomplished. I expect to keep my spirit and dedication to make higher accomplishments constantly. I prove that this victory is the start of a better journey,” ended Syahrul. (imh/syi/wil)
