The academic community of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) has made another achievement at the national level. This time, Mujahidin, a freshman in the Islamic Religious Education (IRE) program study, won 3rd place at the UNNES Islamic Fair 2023 national tilawah competition. The competition was held in mid-December.

Muji, his nickname, said that the achievement resulted from his activity in the Student Activity Unit of Musabaqah Tilawah Al-Qur'an (MTQ). Moreover, he is confident that he has great talent and potential. Moreover, by being part of MTQ UMM, Muji received many great benefits.

"Thank God, the coaches were professional and had many contacts. So, there are many competition events that I can participate in," he said.

During the training process before the competition, Muji often practised until late. Instead of feeling bored and tired, Muji enjoyed it. Checking pitch intonation, maintaining tajweed and makhroj, and practicing songs are all things he does during practice.

"I always focus on voice intonation because intonation is the main point in recitation. I have also proven that hard training will pay off," he said.

Furthermore, Muji also explained the importance of maintaining the voice through frequent practice and lifestyle. He admits he will find it difficult to recite and enjoy his hobby if he is sick or has a cold. Whenever he participates in a competition, he maintains his focus and technique, for example, by stretching his muscles to prevent his body from getting tense. Interestingly, this method is a hereditary trick practised by his extended family.

The student who came from NTB has been pursuing tilawah for a long time. Born into a family of reciters, he was encouraged to follow in his family's footsteps. According to Muji, his father is the biggest inspiration to keep loving the recitation of the Quran. His father always believed that the Quran is a miracle and the most magical book.

Lastly, Muji is also committed to contributing to the White Campus consistently. He wants to be a student who always makes the campus proud in the tilawah field. "Believing that we have potential is a form of our gratitude as creatures of Allah. Therefore, you must be eager to hone your potential and become a star in your field," he concluded. (*ri/wil/put)
