In developing skills and knowledge, it is necessary to have direct experience, both national and international. The same thing was felt by Nisrina Nur Husna, a student of Social Welfare Sciences (IKS) at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM). She had the opportunity to experience studying abroad through the Hüdayi Vakfı Eğitim ve Kültür Projesike scholarship to learn at Aziz Mahmut Hüdayi, Istanbul City, Turkey. For eight months, she studied, to be precise, from April to the beginning of this year.
Nisrina, her nickname, did not expect to pass the scholarship program and fly to Turkey. When she first arrived, she had to go through a ten-day quarantine period before entering the classroom to study science in the Islamic Science Study Program.
One of the main obstacles she felt was none other than language adaptation. Given the majority of Turkish people cannot use English. The lessons she took were also in Turkish, so May didn't want him to study it so she could understand well.
"Luckily, my friends and I were helped to learn Turkish by the local community. They are also friendly and love to exchange smiles. Oh yes, some Indonesian students also teach Turkish," she said.
Apart from language, according to him, adaptation to weather and food is a different obstacle. Sub-tropical climatic conditions with five weather conditions affected her health, especially during autumn and winter, which she had never experienced in Indonesia. As for food, she is still not used to the taste of typical Turkish cuisine until now.
This Depok native student revealed that while running the scholarship program in Turkey, UMM was considered to have helped a lot, especially in academics. Even the IKS Study Program provides online lectures with adjustments to Turkish assignments and time. Several lecturers also always fully support the students who accept students.
"Alhamdulillah, the White Campus Social Welfare Science Department provides lecture facilities so that I have no difficulty continuing my studies at UMM without having to think about taking leave," she said.
The fourth child of four siblings revealed that the Hagia Sophia Mosque was her favorite place while in Turkey. According to her, the Hagia Sophia mosque exudes a solid historical atmosphere, making her unique. She also occasionally visits the city park to relax or read a book simply. It is accompanied by the gurgling of water and the birds that often approach Nisrina.
Nisrina hopes that her knowledge in Turkey can be a blessing for herself and others. Opening doors that she could not reach before and getting the opportunity to teach at an educational institution to gain knowledge. "I want to teach the knowledge and experience that I got in Turkey yesterday. Giving an understanding that no dream is too big if we always try, "she said. (cdr/haq/wil)
