Determined to contribute to strengthening Indonesia's legal foundation, the Faculty of Law at Muhammadiyah Malang University (UMM) actively held a Post-Doctoral Colloquium on November 30, 2024. This scholarly forum featured four panelists with expertise in various fields, including the transformation of legislative policies, juvenile justice, and human rights in the era of legal reform. The event was attended by dozens of participants, including both internal and external members of the UMM academic community.

The first panelist, Cekli Setya Pratiwi, S.H., L.L.M., Ph.D., in one of her publications, highlighted the gaps in legislation that are open to multiple interpretations, particularly in the context of the state-religion relationship. This, she argued, could lead to discriminatory practices by law enforcement, affecting both minority and majority groups. Based on research from a Research Center, it was found that 93% of Indonesian respondents agreed that religion is a fundamental aspect of life in Indonesia.

"Furthermore, the respondents emphasized that the manipulation of religion for the benefit of a particular group tends to be harmful and should be avoided by the state," she added.

Moreover, Cekli explained her reason for choosing the Jokowi administration as the subject of her research. According to her, an essential point in examining the relationship between religion and the state is the need to consider the rule of law. The applicable legislation must be clear and free from multiple interpretations, ensuring fairness for all legal elements.

In addition, Dr. Sholahuddin Al-Fatih, S.H., M.H. presented a paper titled "Reconstruction of Delegated Regulations within the Hierarchy of Legislation in Indonesia." Tinuk Dwi Cahyani, S.H., S.H.I., M.Hum., Ph.D. also gave a presentation on the reform of corruption laws, focusing on a case study of the Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD) in Malang City. Lastly, Dr. Shinta Ayu Purnamawati, S.H., M.H. was a speaker, discussing the philosophy of the sanctification of HPK (community research findings) as a standard principle for achieving substantial justice.

The Dean of the UMM Faculty of Law, Prof. Dr. Tongat, S.H., M.Hum., expressed his appreciation for the successful implementation of the scholarly forum. He also thanked the panelists for generously sharing their time and expertise in their respective fields. According to him, sharing knowledge is a virtuous act, promising the reward of continuous jariyah blessings.

"As the saying goes, the more we share knowledge, the more our basket of wisdom grows with age. The more we pour it out to others, the fuller the basket becomes," he added. (din/wil/ind)
