National awareness and strategies for educating students about national values are crucial. Thus, there must be innovation and breakthroughs in the education process. This was emphasized by the Executive Director of APCE-UNESCO, Prof. Dr. Ignasius D. A. Sutapa, M.Sc., in a national seminar on Teacher Professional Education (PPG) at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, University of Muhammadiyah Malang (FTTE UMM), May 27, 2023.

Furthermore, Ignasius emphasized that currently, the role of teachers is highly significant, especially in implementing the meanings of Pancasila. According to him, there are five fundamental aspects in Pancasila, namely divinity, humanity, unity, democracy, and social justice. The five values must be taught to students so that they can become superior and good human resources.

"The world of education cannot be separated from the challenges of globalization. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen efforts in various aspects. This includes human resources (HR), utilization of digital technology, and looking at trends that are booming in the media as an interesting learning tool for students," he said.

Interestingly, the activity also exhibited dozens of learning media made by UMM PPG participants. Some have developed methods to facilitate students' understanding of culture through wayang golek (Indonesia traditional puppets). There is also equipment that attracts students to learn natural science material, such as aerobes and anaerobes.

The most interesting one is the learning method to protect the environment. One of the members, Eci Sugiarti, explained that the tool tries to give students an understanding of environmental changes. She and the team made props from styrofoam, plastic, and other recycled materials used for the architecture of mountains, cars, humans, and others.

Tri Sugiyanto, S.Sos., The Colonel of Artileri Pertahanan Udara (Arhanud) (trans: Air Defense Artillery), was also present at the event. He reminded the importance of the values of the struggle of Indonesian heroes in liberating a nation so that today's children can gain knowledge in peace.

"Struggle is not just a matter of wielding weapons, but can also be done by being serious in studying and finding new ideas. Hence, innovative solutions to society's problems will emerge," he said.

Sugiyanto also encouraged the teachers to strengthen the value of the struggle intensively. Hopefully, they can maintain the integrity and progress of the Indonesian nation. "Nelson Mandela once said that to destroy a country, we don't need to bombard it. Simply destroy it by making the younger generation forget the history of their nation. So, teachers play a significant role in protecting today's young generation," he said.

Meanwhile, UMM Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd., appreciated the various learning media created with technological and renewable touches. According to him, education in the era 5.0. does require media innovation that attracts the attention of students. It is also a real movement for a prospective educator to participate in educating the nation.

Fauzan also encouraged young teachers to expand their resonance in developing learning models. Not only at the national level but also in the international domain. "The youth, including the young teachers, must be able to give a new touch and become agents of change. You are the educators who will create future generations. In your hands they will grow and be able to advance the Indonesian nation," he concluded. (put/faq/wil)
