A tracer study survey conducted by the Sociology Study Program at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) showed that 80 percent of graduates were engaged in the industrial world. To increase the capacity of graduates, UMM Sociology Study Program has now established a Center of Excellence (CoE) for Professional Managers. This program is open to Sociology study program students and the public interested in taking this class.
Luluk Dwi Kumalasari, S.Sos, M.Si, as the head of the UMM Sociology Department, explained that this Professional Manager Class aims to produce competent graduates according to market needs. Currently, the market requires many graduates with leadership skills, reliable managers with good analysis and social needs. Thus, the center of excellence was born.
"The purpose is not only limited to Sociology students at the White Campus, but also for students from other majors, even open up opportunities for the wider community," she added.
Luluk, her nickname, explained that basically, this class would provide theoretical and practical learning for one semester. There will be many stakeholders joining and participating in preparing the younger generation. Even with synergistic efforts with Industry and the World of Work (Iduka), graduates can immediately get the opportunity to work after completing the program or lecture.
In its implementation, Luluk continued that his party wanted the participants to be able to assist the community in various activities. That way, leadership skills will grow and become the basis for becoming a manager. In addition, it also provides opportunities for participants to do practical or direct internships in the industry with stakeholders and Iduka. But beforehand, they will be provided with an introduction to field trips and field visits.
"The synergy with Iduka is providing direct material in class and being a partner for work practices and internships for Professional Manager CoE participants," she said.
This Jombang native lecturer hopes that many students can follow this new center of excellence created by the Sociology study program outside of sociology and the general public. That way, future generations will emerge who have leadership qualities and can win the competition in the world of work. "Of course, we want this program to be able to produce graduates who are competent and by the needs of the industry," she concluded. (cdr/haq/wil)
