An interesting concept is presented by Pendidikan Guru Sekolah Dasar (PGSD) (Trans: the Elementary School Teacher Education) study program at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang. Attempting to become creative and skilled youths, students performed various fable stories in a drama performance entitled "Renjana Askala" at the end of June.

The drama realized the students' final project for the elementary school Indonesian language study course taught by Innany Mukhlisina, M.Pd, and Delora Jantung Amelia, M.Pd. Both admitted that young people must reach their potential, including drama and creativity.

"This performance aims to realize a generation that has skills, has an artistic spirit, and is able to appreciate existing works. Not only fable drama, the students even performed dances as a complement to the drama," explained one of the teachers, Innany.

The PGSD UMM students brought different fable stories from various islands in Indonesia, including stories from Java, Sumatra, and Kalimantan. One of the fable tales presented was Cara Cerdik Kancil Menaklukan Harimau (trans: The Ingenious Way of Kancil Conquering the Tiger). It tells the story of a tiger known as the king of the jungle of the archipelago. None of the forest dwellers dare to deal with him, even the Rhino, who has a big body. Only Kancil dared to challenge him to a hunting competition. Many did not believe it, but Kancil managed to prove it.

In addition, each student also creates works of children's stories at the elementary school level. Later, the collection of stories will be published in a book and become an alternative reading for children. "Especially nowadays, they are more often affected by content that is not suitable for children's age," said Inany.

The performance was welcomed by the Head of the PGSD Department, Mr. Bustanul Arifin, M.Pd. He advised students to continue to be brave in developing their quality and creativity. Mainly those that can support learning in the classroom later on.

"An activity like this will help students in developing their knowledge. Also with the learning process that they do later during internships and teaching," she concluded. (Put/Wil)
