There was an exciting sight at the Independence ceremony of the Republic of Indonesia (RI), which was held by the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) on Wednesday (17/8). Thousands of participants wore traditional clothes from various regions during the ceremony. High enthusiasm was seen because it had been two years since the 17 August ceremony at UMM had not been held due to the pandemic.
The Indonesian independence celebration at UMM was also enlivened by elementary school (SD) children. They competed in various competitions provided by UMM, such as kids' fashion competitions, coloring, and singing national and regional songs. There are even agility competitions, including the ball relay, rubber relay, and chair relay. This is to instill national values and nationalism in future generations.
Not only for outsiders but various competitions were also held for UMM academics. Starting from clogs to rubber relays have been prepared. This is an effort of UMM to strengthen friendship, cooperation, and a sense of nationalism and love for the homeland.

Meanwhile, in his mandate, Secretary of the Daily Development Board (BPH) UMM Drs. Wakidi invited the UMM academic community to maintain the integrity of the unity. Because according to him, with an agreement, one can realize the declared common goals.
"This is a rare moment for us to wear different traditional clothes like this. Always keep this diversity of customs and ethnicities as the foundation to build unity and unity for our progress together," he said.
Wakidi also emphasized that the independence of Indonesia, which is already 77 years old, could be filled with valuable things. It's not just celebrated with joy. One of them is by giving birth to future generations who are capable, independent, and able to spread goodness to the community.

"This is also a form of our efforts to defend the independence that heroes have fought for with all their body and soul. We must not remain silent and not take advantage of the desperate struggle they have done," he said.
After the ceremony, the names of the outstanding students were also announced, even with exceptional lecturers and employees. They were given appreciation and direct appreciation by the Chancellor of the UMM White Campus.
Meanwhile, an international student from Iran, Farzaneh Sadeghi Moghaddam, was happy to attend the ceremony at UMM. He admitted that this was his first time participating in the Indonesian independence ceremony. According to him, Indonesian people look very proud of their country.
"One of the most interesting things is the diversity of traditional clothes worn by the participants of the ceremony at UMM. I like it very much. If I may say, culture is the extraordinary attraction of the Republic of Indonesia," he said.
Farzaneh, as often called, added that people's love for their culture is not only seen in traditional clothes. But also dance, customs, and also the abundance of local languages. Regional languages are also taught in traditional schools. It amazed him, and he wanted to learn much about this maritime nation.
"I would like to wish you a Happy 77th Indonesian Independence Day. Hopefully, this country can be more advanced and maintain its rich culture," said the UMM master's student. (apg/wil)
