As many as 1400 participants of the computer-Based Writing Exam (UTBK) of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) competed to be able to win lectures at the Faculty of Medicine (FK) UMM and the Faculty of Health Sciences (Fikes) UMM. Despite the pandemic, the exam process is still carried out with strict health and safety protocols. The UMM UTBK was held from Thursday (21/7) until Saturday (23/7).

Head of New Student Admission (PMB) UMM Nurudin said that the UMM UTBK process for FK and Fikes was carried out in two waves. The first wave was carried out several months ago. In contrast, the second wave will be held in July. According to him, the number of registrants in FK and Fikes in the second wave increased compared to the first wave.

"In this second wave, there are around 1400s. Compared to the first batch of 1000, of course, this is an increase in the number of applicants who want to enter these two faculties," he added.

Regarding the room, Nurudin said there were already 18 rooms with a capacity of 20 people. In addition to strict health protocols, his party is also prepared to avoid fraud. In each room, a metal detector is provided to anticipate the presence of prohibited tools that the participants may bring. In the UMM UTBK, several police teams were present to ensure security for the smooth running of the exam.

UMM has held the entrance exam method using a computer since 2019. This makes the admission selection process easier and more effective. UMM has also prepared a question team to compile quality questions to get students who have qualified abilities.

“Until now, the enthusiasm and trust of the public in the Faculty of Medicine and Medical Faculty of UMM is very high. It can be seen from the increasing number of registrants. Moreover, we are supported by the existence of RSU UMM, which proves that complete facilities are available. Regarding costs, UMM is still relatively affordable compared to other private universities,” he continued.

Nurudin said that the number of applicants for UMM students would increase in 2022. Even that number can grow considering that registration for the UMM regular route is still open. Apart from FK and Fikes, the public can still register to become UMM students in all majors until 15 August. (cdr/wil)
