Thousands of graduates filled the Dome of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) on May 14. Additionally, guidance was given by the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Muhadjir Effendy, MAP.
In his speech, Gatchalian recounted his career journey, which began as a deputy in the sales and marketing division of a hotel in the Philippines. Despite his current position, he does not rest on his laurels and continues to seek the meaning of success. According to him, success is not just about material things but also the impact of what we have done. "Success is not in the form of money, positions, power, or other things. Success comes from the positive effects we give to society, " he said.
He advised the graduates to always remember five things to help them face life after college. First, embrace uncertainty. They must not be afraid to make mistakes because life is a process of trial and error. Second, do not be afraid to ask for help because everyone needs a little help to achieve their goals. Third, maintain inner harmony and do not be swayed by what others say. Fourth, uphold personal integrity by sticking to the principles they have established. Fifth, continuously improve their skills. "Humans cannot live only from what they have now, but must keep learning from the past," he emphasized.
Meanwhile, Muhadjir urged the graduates to always remember and utilize what they have gained over their four years at UMM. Since their families and communities at home have high hopes that they will be able to face future challenges.

"Do not dwell too much on pleasure. As humans, seek new challenges that can take us to higher levels. Challenges and difficulties are not to be avoided but to be solved," he emphasized.
A similar sentiment was conveyed by the Head of the Higher Education Service Institution (LLDIKTI) Region VII, Prof. Dr. Dyah Sawitri, M.M. She advised that graduates need to have skills and knowledge to compete in the golden era. One way is through the Center of Excellence program offered by UMM. This program has proven to make a real contribution in producing superior generations according to their interests.
Finally, Prof. Dr. Nazaruddin Malik, M.Si., the Rector of UMM, congratulated all the graduates. According to him, graduation signifies that graduates will enter society and are expected to contribute what they have. The main drive-in life is not just pleasure, but meaningful discovery and search.
"Therefore, hold firmly to the promise to UMM and give your best to society. Work hard, be smart, and do not become a burden to the community," he concluded. (tri/wil/fajr)
