Since ancient times, Muhammadiyah has positioned the state as an aspect of worldly muamalahya (transactions). It is referred to as a worldly transactional aspect because there is no concrete explanation in the Quran about what kind of state it should be. However, it can still be found in hadiths and the behavior of the Prophet. This was explained by Prof. Dr. Abdul Mu'ti, M. Ed., Secretary General of the Central Leadership of Muhammadiyah, during his session at the Darul Arqam Top Manager of Muhammadiyah and Aisyiyah Higher Education Institutions, held on June 29. The event, located at the Razy Hotel, the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), was attended by the officials from several universities within the 5 Java regions.
Mu'ti, as he is addressed, stated that the existing state is formed due to the relationships between humans. "The form of the state is habluminannas or the relationship among humans. It is humans themselves who regulate and define the form of the state," he said.

Mu'ti added that when discussing relationships among humans, there are no limits. However, what needs to be emphasized in human relationships are the basic values of transactions and their fundamental principles. These goals are already explained in the basic principles of transactions, which is buying and selling, leasing, debt, agriculture, association, and others.
When speaking about the state as "darul ahdi," it has actually been extensively described in Indonesia's basic state principles, namely Pancasila. In its political statement, Muhammadiyah explains that the Pancasila state form does not contradict Islamic teachings. Starting from its form, basic concepts, and the most beneficial form. Even Muhammadiyah figures contributed to formulating the basic concept of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia as stated in the Jakarta Charter.
"According to Muhammadiyah, Pancasila has Islamic values, so it will not contradict Islamic teachings," he added.
He also recounted that Muhammadiyah figures such as Kasman Singodimejo, Ki Bagus Hadikusumo, and KH. Kahar Muzakir contributed to formulating Pancasila. Pancasila, especially its first principle, aligns well with the principles taught by Islam. Belief in One Almighty God signifies that God is a higher being than religious law.

Muhammadiyah, in its state affairs, aims for the Republic of Indonesia to become a state that is "Baldatun tayyibatun warrabun ghafur." According to some interpretations of experts in Islamic exegesis, the meaning of "baldatun tayyibatun wa rabbun ghafur" is a land that gathers natural goodness and good behavior of its inhabitants. The way to realize a state with such characteristics is through continuous worship to God, possessing noble ethics, trustworthiness among state leaders and citizens, balance between worldly and afterlife affairs, and seeking forgiveness from God.
Lastly, Mu'ti advised the leaders of Muhammadiyah and Aisyiyah higher education institutions present at the forum. Muhammadiyah members must contribute to transforming Indonesia into "Baldatun Tayyibatun wa rabbun ghafur." The charitable efforts undertaken by Muhammadiyah are a manifestation of striving to make Indonesia a better country in the future.
"Let us advance AUM and set an example for society. Therefore, in the future, people can say, 'If you want to see the best universities, look at Muhammadiyah, if you want to see good hospitals, look at Muhammadiyah.' Through these charitable efforts, Muhammadiyah can implement the concept of progressive Islam to achieve a better Indonesia," he concluded. (tri/wil/fajr)
