The University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) registered a historical occasion when a couple, Hadinoto and Eni Suhesti, took their doctoral open examination on the same day on August 22nd. They are students of the Agricultural Science Doctoral Program at UMM and are known for their high academic spirit and strong commitment to their studies.

Hadinoto presented his research entitled Bird Conservation Strategies in Various Habitat Types in Pekanbaru City. He highlighted the importance of birds in the ecosystem and observed the impact of land coverage changes in Riau Province, which is mostly dominated by monoculture plantations, on bird diversity. He also explained that birds are indicators of environmental health, making the diversity of their habitats very important for their conservation.

“This research identified 34 families, 75 species, and 2,244 individual birds in six different habitat types in Pekanbaru. By using the field survey method and SWOT analysis, a conservation strategy that supports the growth and preservation of birds was developed. The public perception of birds in Pekanbaru is generally good, with an average score of 104.03 (83.22%), indicating awareness of the importance of bird conservation,” he explained.

Hadi expressed his optimism that the results of this study will be used as a reference for the government, academicians, and researchers in the bird conservation endeavor. The suggested strategies support the preservation and utilization of existing conservation opportunities, as well as provide recommendations in the preparation of regulations related to bird conservation in Pekanbaru and its surroundings.

Meanwhile, Eni Suhesti, with her research entitled Model Technology Assemblies to Improve the Quality and Production of Honey from Apis mellifera L. with Acacia Crassicarpa as a Feed, explained that the research aims to improve the quality and production of honey from Apis mellifera bees in Sungai Mandau District, Siak Regency, Riau, by using Acacia crassicarpa plants as a feed source.

Eni explained that Acacia crassicarpa is a plant that produces nectar throughout the year and has the potential to support honey production. She said the research was conducted in three stages, namely surveying the composition and production of nectar at various plant ages, experimenting with the effect of harvest time and plant age on the quality and production of honey, and preparing a technology model to improve the quality and production of honey.

“The results show that the plant age and the harvest time affect the quality of honey, with an optimal harvest time of 30 days and the best plant age of 8 to 18 months. The technology model developed includes site preparation, colony care, and optimal harvesting. This model is expected to increase the production of high-quality honey in peat swamp areas,” she explained.

This phenomenon has also influenced many other students, showing that with hard work and strong support, achieving high academic goals is not impossible. Jas Merah Kampus Putih is very proud to be part of their academic journey and hopes that this achievement will have a wide positive impact, both among students and the general public.

The achievement of Hadinoto and Eni Suhesti shows that academic success is not only determined by individual ability but also by the synergy created by supportive relationships and collective spirit in achieving common goals. (Faq/Put)
