The Halal Center of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) again held a Batch 2 Halal Product Process Assistance training. The series of agendas was carried out from June 14 to 16 with speakers from professors, UMM halal auditors, and the Thayiban Halal Examination and Study Institute (LPH-KHT) Muhammadiyah Central Executive.
The Vice Rector I UMM Prof. Dr. Syamsul Arifin, M.Sc., opened the training and appreciated the research center and UMM halal products. According to him, the program is essential because it will be one of the sociological considerations of the community in choosing products. Moreover, Muslims are the majority in Indonesia, so the halal guarantee toyyiba is a crucial aspect.
"Of course, there is a need for development and focus on developing the halal industry, which is not only for the Indonesian market but can also be developed in other countries. Especially secular countries where Muslims are a minority. Of course, this step is one of the efforts to develop the halal industry there," he added.
He is also happy because soon, this program will be linked to Merdeka Learn Campus Merdeka (MBKM). He hopes that in the future, the students can participate in this series of training programs and be converted into the curriculum of each study program.
On the same occasion, Prof. Dr. Ir. Elfi Anis Saati, M.P., the head of the UMM Halal Product Research and Development study center, explained that the purpose of this event was to increase synergy. Mainly between the Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency (BPJPH) and the Thayiban Halal Inspection and Study Institute (LPH KHT) Muhammadiyah in responding to the 2014 JPH Law and the Job Creation Law related to "Self-Declaration" for MSMEs.
Furthermore, his party also seeks to improve the competence of UMM stakeholders, Muhammadiyah cadres, Islamic boarding schools, and institutions around Malang and East Java. According to her, understanding halal products is fundamental. Accompanied by the ability to audit and assist SMEs in the management of halal certification.
"The target of this program is to contribute innovative solutions in the form of mentoring and providing human resources for Muslims related to the protection of thoyib halal products, especially for MSMEs in East Java," she said.
Finally, she also wants this kind of activity to be carried out sustainably—both in the form of halal product exhibitions, national and international scientific forums, and joint scientific publications. "I hope that through this activity, we can serve and prove the slogan of Muhammadiyah for the nation," she concluded. (cdr/ros/wil)
