An interesting story came from M. Solahudin Al Ayubi, a University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) student awarded a scholarship from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek). Thanks to his active participation in international activities at the White Campus, he managed to get the opportunity to take part in the Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA) program. Now, Solah is studying for one semester at the University of Glasgow, Scotland.
“When applying to scholarship programs, IISMA is one that I want to join. In addition to improving self-capability, the IISMA program also collaborates with 300 of the best campuses in the world. One of them is the University of Glasgow, where I studied for one semester,” said the Bogor-born student.
Furthermore, Solah shared that he had many exciting experiences during the IISMA program in Scotland. One of them is a great learning culture. The University of Glasgow provides students with a substantial dedicated study room. Unlike in Indonesia, Solah said that no one made fun of diligent students.
“In Indonesia, sometimes we see some people who make fun of hardworking and ambitious students. I found a different thing at the University of Glasgow, where students are required to study hard because the standards are high and it is difficult to get an A,” said Solah.

According to him, the opportunity to study abroad is impossible without the international experience gained while looking at UMM, primarily through the International Relations Office (IRO). Start from the Temasek Foundation, Association Internationale des Etudiants en Sciences Economiques et Commerciales (AIESEC) to various international volunteers. Solah was also accepted by the Erasmus+ program and allowed him to study in Europe, Portugal, to be precise.
Solah had another exciting experience while in Scotland when he had the opportunity to sit down with the Indonesian Ambassador Plenipotentiary Extraordinary (LBBP) to the United Kingdom. More broadly, he also got many acquaintances and networking from other parts of the world. Provide many perspectives and ideas that can be developed later when returning to Indonesia.

"I represented IISMA University of Glasgow at the IISMA United Kingdom (UK) awardee event. At the event, I had the opportunity to be the chairman of the event and give a speech on behalf of IISMA awardees in the UK," said Solah.
The last child of six siblings admitted that he has a solid motivation to explore various countries. Two of them are Saymour Lipset and Imam Syafii, who explain new overseas experiences. For him, the opportunity in the IISMA program is not just a one-semester lecture at the world's top campus, but he can learn many valuable lessons.
"I believe that everyone has the same right to dream. All dreams also have the same right to be fought. Some dreams are difficult to achieve, but it feels too bad if we give up without learning a lesson from failure," he said. (cdr/Syi/wil )
