UMM and BRI Vocational Sunset Reduce the Risk of Failing Student Studies

As many as 35 vocational students at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) received scholarships for study fees from Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) Malang. This was UMM and BRI's efforts to help develop talent and reduce the risk of failing to study. The scholarship is also part of the UMM Vocational program, Student Safety Net (Sunset). The handover took place on January 27, 2023.

The head of BRI Malang, Mohammad Suratin, said that this CSR assistance is one of the BRI Cares programs to improve the welfare of the community around the company. One of them is providing scholarship assistance to economically disadvantaged students.

"Moreover, seeing the extraordinary talents of UMM students. So, with this little assistance, hopefully, it can help the smooth running of UMM students' studies. In addition, this assistance can also be used as business capital for students so that they can be economically independent, so they don't continue to depend on the assistance they receive. There is," said Suratin.

He also hoped that the awarding of this scholarship could become a gateway for BRI's collaboration with the UMM White Campus. He sees various fields as having opportunities to collaborate to spread more benefits to society.

On the other hand, the Head of the UMM Vocational Education and Training Directorate, Dr. Tulus Winarsunu, M.Sc., said that the BRI scholarship assistance was in line with the Sunset program initiated by his party. This program aims to overcome the risk of failing to study, which often becomes a barrier for students.

"This program has helped with study costs and student living expenses since two years ago. It has even helped with the training costs of students going to Japan. Hopefully, the assistance from BRI this time can increase the enthusiasm of students to study well," said Sincere.

The UMM Chancellor, Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd. He hoped that there would be opportunities for UMM and BRI to expand cooperation. He encourages students who receive scholarships to use them appropriately and usefully, mainly if it is used to build a business that can support itself and pay tuition fees, so it only depends on other assistance.

Yulia Ayu Firnanda, a UMM D3 nursing student, welcomed the Bri scholarship. He feels lucky to be able to get CSR assistance from BRI because he is currently looking for a scholarship for his studies.

"Apart from paying for college, I also plan to develop a business to be more independent. There are many ideas and friends I can invite to start my business," she concluded. (cdr/zak/wil)
