CENTRAL LIBRARY of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) did not only provide services and benefits for civitas academica, but also to other agencies. It’s has been seen from the visit of 120 library managers under the Ministry of Agriculture of Indonesia on Wednesday (12/4) at UMM Central Library .
The next visit will be filled with discussion and sharing an information related to UMM library with the participants. Representative of UMM library Arif Yuni Ismanto explained about library governance, facilities, information system and also services that being used within UMM central library. In his presentation, Arif stated that UMM library has been continuing to make improvements to fullfill the needs of UMM civitas academica.
The latest facility which was being run is the addition of an international journal facility. "At least, the UMM library cooperates with four journal institutions that provide many multidisciplinary international journals," explained the head of UMM central library service department.
Among the four providers of the journal was a consortium of all libraries of Indonesian universities in East Java. Its name Proquest, continued Arif. Three other institutions, such as Ebso located in the US, Emerald Journal located in UK and the Gale Change Learning located in America.
All three werenot presented in the form of consortium, but UMM independently to provide facilities for students and lecturers. But the shortcomings, continued Arif, until now students and lecturers still not maximize the facility for academic purposes. "All facilities are already provided at first floor of the central library," added Arif who currently serves as the coordinator of the Forum Libraries of Indonesian Universities (FPPTI) East Java regional.
The arrival of library managers at UMM was one of the library steps to take lessons and could be applied in UMM library. In the future, we will implement a mobile library that can be downloaded in smart devices by all UMM students. "All in the exploratory period, in the future UMM students will be more easier to borrow or check books or to access the existing journals in the Library," he said. (Naz)
