UMM Technical Information Inaugurated 24-Hours Research Laboratory

Laboratory use in doing research is limited. It makes the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) Informatics Engineering Department just inaugurate a new laboratory that can be used 24-hours. The advantages, not just the access time, this laboratory is equipped with many up-to-date technologies to support the practicum practices and even student and lecturer research.

 “This laboratory existence was to please the needs of students and lecturer so that they don’t have a time limit when doing research in a laboratory,” said Dr. Lailis Syafa'ah, M.T. as the 2nd Vice Dean of Faculty of Engineering in his office Saturday (20/4). This Practical and Research Laboratory which located on the 6th floor of GKB II was inaugurated and used since 5th April 2019.

This laboratory supports practicum activities in four areas of interest. Those are software engineering, system and network security, data science, and smart game. Moreover, it is supported by thirty assistants, one laboratory staff, and five part time worker who ready to serve. Furthermore, this laboratory was standardized through the certification cooperation scheme with Oracle Academy and Cisco Networking Academy.

According to the Head of Laboratory Agus Eko, S.Kom, this research laboratory was equipped by various supporting facilities. Not just can be accessed 24-hour, fast internet connection, Air Conditioner, meeting room, 3D printing, neurosky, and there were also console game (Xbox 360 + Kinect) and Coffee Bar for the stress relieve after doing the research in the laboratory.

Moreover, Agus hopes that the existence of this laboratory will ease access to cooperate with the industries. “Besides those targets, I hope that the informatics engineering students can be more productive and innovative, and the most important is creating synergy between lecturers and students in every research,” he said Saturday (20/4).

According to Rama Daniswara, one of the Informatics Engineering Department students admits that the existence of this research laboratory considered very supporting the student’s achievements. “I hope that by the existence of this brand new research laboratory, it can make us comfortable in using and deepen the research. So that we can discover something and knowledge,” he said. (joh)
