Two literacy activists try Virtual Reality provided by American Corner |
University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) takes part in disseminating literacy atmosphere through Mobil KaCa (KaCa Car). Then, UMM gives information about literacy through Technical Implementation Unit of Library (UPT Llibrary). UPT Library UMM provides training about how to filter information. The Head of Management Affairs of UPT Library UMM, Ani Herawatin said, “People get information massively. It needs to be filtered”.
There was Malang literacy activists under the auspice of the Reading Movement National Library of the Republic of Indonesia (GPMB) attended as participants. They discussed and shared experiences in managing information sources that are used in library. Makrumah, one of library managers in Bululawang said, “It is great to discuss about literacy information with librarians in UMM”. This agenda was expected that people can access information easily. It is also expected that literacy activists can maintain the reading interest of people in Malang.
The Head of School Library Development and Archives of Malang Regency, Aris Kusdiatmuko said, “It is expected that GPMB can get more information about library management”. Furthermore, the participants also visited to corners in UMM Library such as American Corner (Amcor). There, they shared information about how to create an enjoyable library for the readers. Heru Wiwobo, one of Amcor staffs demonstrated the use of Virtual Reality. Heru said, “Amcor is a center to get any information about United States in UMM. There are many books and games here”. Currently, Libraries in America are not places for reading books, but also to sharpen psychomotor and cognitive through games. Heru said, “Libraries in America provide games to make readers comfortable to be there”. The training class held by UPT Library UMM could be attended by public. (lus)
