SINCE Monday (2/1) University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) had opened a new student registration trough invitation. This was given to the students of high school graduates who had both academic and non-academic achievement. Also, the registration would end up on 7 April 2016.
UMM Vice Rector I, Dr.Syamsul Arifin MSi said that, for the criteria of achievement, the students who register must have a minimum average of report 80 starting from first to five semester. The average mark was increased than the previous year. It was 75. The increasing average, said Syamsul, showed that UMM more selective because the appealing of this university was bigger.
As for non-academic or talent, the students who have good achievement in sport, art, scientific, or religious minimal at the city or district level which was proved by plaque of appreciation.
For the ones who passed through invitation system would get free scholarship tuition fee for the first semester, except for Health Science study program (FIKES) would only get off 50% of the semester I tuition. However, this system was not applicable to the Faculty of Medicine.
Syamsul said further, there was no written test in this system but for the interview still be done to determine the quality and motivation of new students.
The way to register was also easy, through online, so it made new students who came from outside of Java easier. So, they did not need to come to Malang. Not surprisingly, although it was new two days opened, the applicant was already reached 209 students who came from several districts. “It is digital era already. We can see from the different districts of applicants, which means UMM information has known by many people.” said Syamsul.
Meanwhile, for the regular system would be begun on the beginning of March. The first would be opened on 6 March to 7 May, and the second started from 22 May to 14 July, the last 24 July to 11 August.
UMM also continued improving its service quality to new students, especially registration process or even academic services. Now, said Syamsul, UMM was planning her-registration
payment system done in UMM Dome, not in Academic Administration Bureau anymore. “It is to make the academic services running fast, precise, comfortable, and friendly.” He said.
The latest, there was one new study program that has been opened. It was Pharmacists Profession. In addition, Faculty of Islamic Studies would also be done mapping of potential students dealing with religious education and Arabic. Contrast with the previous years, the interview system was done by one day service. Thus, after having written test, the students registered via regular would have interview test in the same day.
