UMM Urges People How to Be Wise Using Social Media in Political Year

Social media cannot be separated by discussing about the plurality of thoughts of users. People use social media to speak up their opinions. In 2010, people knew “Post-Truth”, which means the emotional feeling of someone that is more influential than facts in the form of opinions. Moreover, post truth is a result of the massive use of social media.

Tuesday (5/6), on the agenda of breaking the fast with Media and Press held by University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), Executive Director of The Jawa Post Institute of Post-Autonomy (JPIP), Rohman Budijanto said, “Nowadays, social media is one of the tools to believe in something, including about worship”.

Rohman Budijanto who is familiarly called Roy, explained about how Indonesian people speak up their opinions which are expected to be believed by wider society. Roy said, “What is on social media is actually the reflection of how people care about the phenomenon in society”.

Roy revealed that there are many opinions that lead to unclear discussion. Roy who is the Adviser of Information Communications Institute (LIK) Regional Leadership of Muhammadiyah (PWM) of East Java stated that social media is a tool to discuss about politics. “Politics is the most awaited moment. This year, social will be a part to determine people’s opinions about politics”.

At the end, Roy, the one who wrote a book “Amplop Adalah Candu Bagi Jurnalis” (red: Envelope is Opium for Journalist) revealed his perspective about politics of people. He expected that people are smart and wise enough to response about various issues in social media. “I expect that people become smart users and do not easily influenced by negative things in social media”.
