UMM Becomes a Pioneer in Establishing E-Sport Student Activity Units in Malang

UMM E-Sport Becomes a Pioneer of E-Sport Communities in Malang Campus ( Photo : Special) 

Starting as a small community of Mobile Legends (ML) enthusiasts, the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) has established an E-Sport student activity unit (UKM) since 2022. This UKM has become one of the pioneers of E-Sport communities in the Malang campus area. They have achieved numerous achievement in various e-sport games, both regionally and nationally.

Ahmad Lutfi Wahyu, the chairman of UMM E-Sport, expressed that their vision is to compete on international stages, beginning with victories in regional and national championships. Although they originated from a passion for ML, UMM E-Sport has expanded its reach to various other e-sport games, including ML Bang-Bang, PUBG Mobile, Valorant, E-Football & FIFA, etc.

Notably, they have accomplished significant achievements in several tournaments. For instance, they secured first place in the 2022 Offline Tournament for Player Unknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) Mobile, second place in the Mobile Legend Zodiac E-Sports Competition Season XXII Regional Malang 2022, third place in the PUBG Mobile Campus Championship 2022, first and third places in the E-Football Campus Competition 2023, and third place in the National Student Esports League for MLBB Women 2024.

Wahyu explained that e-sports serve as a valuable platform for students to channel their hobbies into professional opportunities. UMM E-Sport is actively engaged in various e-sport events at the campus, regional, and national levels. He believes that the presence of e-sports in the digital world is increasingly recognized by industries as technology evolves. Being involved in a field they are passionate about is certainly enjoyable for them. He expressed admiration for the dedication, hard work, and achievements of the UMM E-Sport teams in their pursuit of success.

“I am very pleased to be involved in this field. Although it can be quite challenging at times, as developing e-sports among students has its difficulties, we at UMM E-Sport continuously strive to enhance our competencies to realize our mission of producing competent and accomplished e-sport athletes and referees on national and international stages,” he added.

Finally, Wahyu expressed gratitude for UMM's full support in the development of the E-Sport UKM on campus. This support certainly motivates the athletes to achieve more victories.
