University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) is always committed to giving birth to a superior and independent generation. One of the concrete forms is establishing a training program and job placement in Japan by the White Campus Vocational School. This program is the result of collaboration with OS Selnajaya, which allows young Indonesians to pursue careers in the land of Sakura.

At the opening of the training, the Rector of UMM, Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd. Motivate the attendees. According to him, this program is a step for UMM to provide facilities for those who want to work abroad, especially in Japan. There will be many other destination countries to choose from in the future.

"Until now, there have been two waves that have participated in this training series. The material provided is language training to skills training in each field," he said.

Fauzan also emphasized that this program was not the last innovation program from the White Campus. Currently, UMM has started to build facilities for various training activities located in Karang Ploso. Multiple parties have also cooperated to realize other exciting programs.

"Hopefully, innovations like this can continue to grow and become a model for others. I also advised the participants to give a good impression when later working in Japan. Because good people will always be loved and missed, "said Fauzan.

Meanwhile, the Director of the Directorate of Vocational Education and Training of UMM, Dr. Tulus Winarsunu, M.Sc., explained that this program seeks to provide information related to employment schemes needed in Japan. In addition, it also facilitates vocational, high school, and university graduates to gain access to training which will eventually lead to job placements.

Furthermore, two primary skills are given to the participants during the 6–12-month training process. First, namely Japanese language skills that will support the job acceptance process. Then the second is job skills in each field. After that, they are required to take an exam to work in Japan.

"This training program in collaboration with OS Selnajaya also helps arrange interviews between participants and users to ensure job placements. Likewise, with the preparation of the documents needed to be able to work and work abroad. So, everyone can register to be one of the participants to go to Japan," he added after opening the second batch of training on Wednesday (18/5).

To date, five work schemes have been prepared. These include kaigo or caregiver, food and beverage production, building cleaning, fisheries and aquaculture, and agriculture. The training participants can choose one of them as long as the requirements can be appropriately fulfilled.

Meanwhile, Reza Ramadhan, as Global Strategy OS Selnajaya, said that in the first wave last January, 17 people had joined. The batch is specifically for those who want a career in the caregiver field. While in the second wave, there were 25 participants divided into five lots of work. So there are a total of about 42 people.

The facilities provided by the UMM-OS Selnajaya Training Center are also capable. They start from boarding accommodation during training, water and electricity, books, and materials from existing teachers and tutors. The income received later reaches 13-15 million per month on a five-year contract.

“For kaigo or caregiver, the training is quite long because it has more to do with humans, especially related to language. Moreover, it is the elderly who are being cared for. Meanwhile, there is relatively no need to interact with many people in other fields. For costs, there is a bailout fund that potential participants can use. Later, they can repay the training costs when they are already working. So I think this assistance is quite easy,” he said.

The participants will go through several stages until later they can work in Japan. The interview process starts with training, then language and skill tests until departure to the location. Meanwhile, UMM and OS Selanajaya will direct and facilitate these processes. Reza assessed that there were no significant obstacles during the training process. They need to keep the motivation of the participants. Moreover, the material provided is very dense, everyone's learning model is different, and it takes time to adapt.

According to him, the opportunities available are pretty large. Moreover, seeing the need for human resources (HR) in five fields of work in Japan is quite a lot. "Of course, we hope that the UMM-Selnajaya program can help graduates of SMA, SMK, and universities in building good careers abroad," he concluded. (cdr/wil)
