The proud news once again came from the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM). Most recently, UMM successfully made it into the top five campuses with the best research quality in Indonesia, precisely in fourth position. This assessment is based on the 2025 World University Rankings (WUR) ranking released by Times Higher Education (THE). The quality of UMM research has successfully outperformed various public and private campuses throughout Indonesia. Meanwhile, the White Campus is ranked eighteenth in Indonesia for all aspects.
UMM scored 39.6 in the research assessment. UMM Vice Chancellor IV Muhammad Salis Yuniardi, M.Psi, Ph.D., explained that research quality assessment is an important dimension in the WUR 2025 ranking. Even THE gives the most weight to related aspects. There are four indicators measured in the research aspect, namely citation impact, research strength, research excellence, and research influence.

"This achievement proves that the research conducted and published by UMM academics is qualified. It is not only creating a lot of research but really has good value to provide solutions for the community,” he said.
The four indicators above measure how much academic universities contribute to research. It also measures how much impact it has globally. The points also illustrate the ability of the campus to produce high-quality research. Various research conducted must be recognized by the international academic community. It must also be able to have an effect on the development of science in each field.
Salis hopes that this achievement can fuel UMM residents to continue to improve quality. That way, over time, the White Campus will be able to get various other national and international recognitions.
