University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) has again received philanthropy of date palm from Saudi Arabia through its embassy in Jakarta. It is the sixth time for UMM receiving this annual gift in Ramadhan.

This year, the gift reaches 600 boxes or more than 4.8 tons. According to the coordinator of UMM missionary headquarter Hosni Mubarok, the gift was landed on UMM at Monday (6/7) 2.00 p.m. It was then distributed to various institutions scattered around East Java, such as Sumenep, Lamongan, and Madiun.

“From those 600 boxes, we give 200 boxes for UIN (Islamic State University) Maliki Malang and 100 boxes for Unisma (Islamic University of Malang). UMM only takes 250 boxes. The rest have been given to Muhammadiyah schools, PCM (Branch Council Board of Muhammadiyah) and PDM (Regional Council Board of Muhammadiyah), orphanages, and public,” he explained.

Besides receiving the date-palm gift, UMM also receives 1.666 iftar packages. “Actually the packages have been increased compared to last year despite the absent of personal donator from Saudi Arabia,” added him.

According to Mosque Management Board (BPM) Drs. Syamsurizal Yazid, M.A, the date-palm gift has been given since 2006. “UMM is the trusted university to distribute the gift,” he informed.

Those two gifts, date-palm and iftar packages, are the part of Syiar Ramadhan agendas 1436 H held by UMM. This agenda will be closed by Shalat Id. in two different locations: UMM Helipad and Parking Lot of Campus II. For the preacher in Helipad, it will be strapped to Prof. Dr. Abdul Munir Mulkhan from Muhammadiyah Central Council (PP) while another preacher in Campus II will be strapped to Dr. Mohammad Syaifuddin, M.M from Faculty of Teacher Training and Education.
