Minister of PMK and Chancellor of UMM were present at the gathering and collaboration of the UMM New Book Store (NBS) |
Breakthroughs in education, significantly increasing interest in reading again, were carried out by the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM). This time, the White Campus immediately opened the UMM New Book Store (NBS), located on Jalan Raya Sengkaling, right next to Rayz Hotel UMM. NBS also invited several publishers to discuss last Saturday (9/3). Also present were the Chair of the White Campus Daily Development Board (BPH) and the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (PMK), Prof. Dr. Muhadjir Effendy, M.A.P.
Muhadjir was happy because there was a serious effort to revitalize the bookstore by the White Campus. Reading books do have an essential role in developing the literacy of future generations. However, Muhadjir still feels worried about losing a generation who loves books. "I don't feel good if I don't read books or print media, including newspapers. Even though many online media are mushrooming," he said.
According to him, you need substantial efforts to keep books as your primary reading, especially in increasing the love of young people for books. Two of them are developing a new concept for a bookstore and carrying out exciting activities that children love. Even though it seems trivial, this effort can build strong book reading traditions.

"If we fail to prepare a generation that loves books, then the opportunities for parents will also be lost, likewise, with qualified future generations who continue the nation. Even if we look at it, several major media outlets failed to prepare themselves so that they eventually disappeared," he added.
Regarding the cooperation, the Head of the General Administration Bureau, Dr. Ahmad Juanda, Ak. M.M. C.A. hopes the publishers can support NBS well. Especially in the state of various bookstores, which are now not visited by many. Even so, the leadership of the White Campus saw an opportunity and ventured to open a bookstore with a new concept.
As for its implementation, the management system has been well prepared and involves professionals under P.T. New Bookstore UMM. All permits and requirements have also been completed. So, according to him, publishers should not hesitate to supply and provide books on existing shelves.

"Of course, we hope this cooperation can be mutually beneficial for all parties. Besides that, it also provides and provides quality books for readers, not only for UMM but also for the wider community," he said.
The gathering and cooperation were well received by the publishers who were present. Ulie, a representative of the publisher Gramedia, felt that the NBS concept was quite interesting. Moreover, the preparation of other facilities such as cafes can attract public interest. They are also ready to work together to build and advance the world of Indonesian books. (apg/wil)
