Being the Host of the 35th PIMNAS Event: UMM Garners the Most Attention

The 35th National Student Scientific Week event (PIMNAS) at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang was officially opened by pushing the metaverse button designed by UMM. In addition, the performances of three mascots in the 35th PIMNAS event, the Panji, also garnered attendees’ attention on 30th November. The Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, Nadiem Makarim, equipped participants before the competition began. 

Nadiem, his familiar nickname, values that Indonesia does not lack research and technology wealth. Throughout 35 years of conducting PIMNAS, Indonesian university students have created many high-value products. Unfortunately, although many research products exist, they must be supported by a solid circumstance to benefit the wider society. 

“The condition clearly harms Indonesia, whereas various existing research and technology inventions which can solve the problems faced by the nation. Therefore, Kemendikbud initiated the Kedaireka program to bridge partnerships and universities. Having run for two years, Kedaireka has accepted 6000 proposals and distributed 13 trillion in funds for research assistance. Collaboration between universities and partnerships eventually positively impacts the wider society life.”, said the Minister of Birth of Singapore.

He believes the PIMNAS event will sustainably reinforce Indonesia's research ecosystem and innovation. It is also proven that universities in Indonesia will never lack ideas, innovations, and great talents to continue milestones.

“Besides honing creativity and thinking ability, the PIMNAS event is also a means to train your mental and character to be a braver individual whether it is to dare to take risks or to face failure. Whether you win or lose, you will still be an essential part of Indonesia to realise a sustainable ecosystem for research.” Nadiem uttered. 

In the competition, various students from Indonesia competed to give their best innovation. There were 1693 participants from 374 teams from 97 universities in Indonesia. They would present the best in several categories of the Students’ Creativity Program, such as Exact Research, Social and Humanity, Entrepreneurship, Community Service, etc.

On the other hand, Dr Joko Widodo, M. Si., as the Rector Assistant for Student Affairs of UMM, expressed that the PIMNAS event is a competition that must be coached and improved even in the pandemic situation. History also recorded that the University of Muhammadiyah Malang became the host of the 19th PIMNAS event in 2006. It happened again that UMM was entrusted to hold the 35th edition of the event.

From his point of view, the PIMNAS event can be a stepping stone for the nation to prepare for the future of the Republic of Indonesia. Also, the regeneration stage can help to achieve a golden Indonesia 2045.  “PIMNAS will be the competition that will generate creative, innovative, and solutional youth,” said Joko, who serves as a member of the Daily Board of Trustees of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang.
