The academic community of Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) keeps taking part in the spirit of the awakening. Various efforts have even received appreciation from The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), especially in education and social affairs. This was conveyed by UMM Rector Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd., in his speech commemorating National Awakening Day on May 20, 2023.
Furthermore, Fauzan assessed that the UNESCO response was strategic because it can increase world confidence towards UMM the White Campus. This achievement is certainly thanks to the academic community, who think and act based on awakening values. Thus, solutive innovations and creativity emerge, such as pembangkit listrik tenaga mikro hidro (PLTMH) (Trans: micro-hydro power plants) to solutions to food aspects.

The ceremony was also meant to be a reminiscence and a moment of recollection to awaken the unyielding values of the heroes. "The commemoration of National Awakening Day certainly reminds us of the struggle figures such as Dr. Soetomo and his comrades-in-arms through the organization he founded Budi Utomo. Through this organization, the Indonesian people united to build awareness of the meaning of nationalism to become an independent nation," explained Fauzan.
According to Fauzan, a country's civilization can continue to be established because its people are educated. Through education, Indonesia can become an independent nation and not easily colonized by other nations. UMM must also take this role to prepare the best human resources (HR) that can advance the country.
"This commemoration is also the spirit of UMM community in doing their duties and responsibilities. Working with creative, innovative, and solutive elements. We must not be reluctant to move forward and welcome a better Indonesia, "said Fauzan.

On that occasion, UMM the White Campus also gave some awards to outstanding academicians. Among them are lecturers who provide breakthroughs and new research, highly disciplined employees, and those who have served UMM for over 25 years.
Likewise, public relations at the faculty and study program levels can disseminate reliable information to the public. They received awards for their performance and efforts in taking part. Finally, the four outstanding students maximized their potential and won competitions. (Put/Zak/Wil)
