A while back, a video of a pregnancy test for female students in one of the districts in West Java went viral. This sparked various opinions and views. Including from a sociology perspective delivered by sociology lecturer at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) Luluk Dwi Kumalasari, M.Si. According to her, although the school has the authority to make policies on the school environment it manages, it does not rule out the possibility that the policies implemented are wrong because they do not refer to existing rules. Especially if without clear coordination with related parties.
“So it is necessary to collaborate with various agencies so that the process of implementing policies in the school environment remains in the corridor of education and related sociolation,” said Luluk regarding the issue of schools conducting pregnancy tests on their students.

IShe also regretted the various photos and videos that had been spread and viral on social media when the students were doing urine tests with the headline pregnancy tests. According to her, this is detrimental, especially for female students and has a long psychological impact. Especially if there is no clear statement of attitude from the school. Looking at various existing cases including sexual harassment, women are often the victims of discrimination and blame in this case. Therefore, Luluk hopes that schools can be more careful in seeing, reading, and understanding what policies they will implement.
“If indeed the school argues that the urine test is carried out with urgency for drug prevention, then the school must still cooperate with the relevant authorized agencies and institutions. So that the process of implementing the policy will run well and not be misguided,” he added.
In this case, Luluk said, the need for education and socialization related to reproductive and sexuality issues at every school level. This is an effort so that cases of deviation can be reduced and no longer occur in the school environment. However, Luluk realizes that supervision of minors remains the main responsibility of the family. But it does not rule out the possibility, schools and also the community are involved as important parties in its supervision.

“It is difficult to always supervise children every day, considering that the times are getting more advanced and parents will still be easily missed in their supervision. Hence, children still always need assistance and are well understood regarding the impact of such deviant behavior,” Luluk said.
Finally, Luluk also appealed to the public not to easily believe in various viral news that is confusing. Because by digging for facts in the field, people can be wiser in their attitude about an issue that is circulating. (zaf/wil/ind)
