The moment of Eid al-Fitr 2023 was marked by a few unpleasant incidents. One of them is the statement of the Badan Riset dan Inovasi Nasional (BRIN) (Trans: National Research and Innovation Agency) AP Hasanuddin about the difference in holidays that cornered Muhammadiyah. He even threatened to kill and legalize the blood of Muhammadiyah citizens.

A number of reactions were shown by Muhammadiyah citizens. Starting from criticizing, regretting, and reporting it to the authorities. Regarding this phenomenon, Pimpinan Wilayah Muhammadiyah Jawa Timur (PWM Jatim) (Trans: Muhammadiyah East Java Regional Leader) Dr. Nazaruddin Malik, M.Si. explained several things. According to him, that post clearly violates the ethics of social and legal norms. In addition, it also violates Pancasila, which is a reference for us as Indonesia citizens.

"This can certainly be expressed as hate speech. Regardless whatever the background motive of the person concerned to write it," added the Vice Chancellor II of Muhammadiyah University of Malang (UMM).

Furthermore, he also considered that Muhammadiyah's action to report the BRIN to the authorities was right. This will certainly prevent vigilantism and can be used as a role model for other communities not to judge easily. Moreover, Muhammadiyah is a community organization that obeys the law.

Nazar, as he is often called, emphasized that Muhammadiyah people have been able to face situations like this with maturity for a long time. They already understand how to address various social issues. "So I think Muhammadiyah residents can manage their emotions and resolve them in a good way," he said.

Finally, Nazar hopes that Muhammadiyah people can continue to oversee the ongoing legal process of AP Hasanuddin. Moreover, Muhammadiyah has also emphasized in its Muktamar about the importance of establishing social media ethics, law enforcement, and education related to it.

"In various places and opportunities, the General Chairperson of the Muhammadiyah Central Leadership always gives instructions and lectures that Muhammadiyah has a strong intention to eradicate hate speech, including through social media. That way, people can also understand and always try to use digital media properly," he concluded. (put/wil)
