Glorious achievements were achieved by students at Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM). Three UMM students represented Indonesia and won gold medals in the international ASEAN University Games (AUG) Pencak Silat competition, which has been held in Indonesia since July 3rd. The students, who are also members of Tapak Suci UMM, managed to defeat the representatives from other countries in the women's team Pencak Silat art category.

The three UMM athletes are Qonit Fildza Maizura, Shelsa Odilia Rachman, and Wita Carissa Amelia. They admitted that they had prepared various things months ago, especially the training. In fact, they have not taken a day off to practice in the past month.

"Indeed, it's very busy and hectic. For the past month, we have been practicing our art and techniques. In fact, a week before the competition, we scheduled two training sessions a day, and it was quite tiring. Alhamdulillah, we got a good reward and result, which is a gold medal at AUG," said Qonit.

Although it was exhausting, they admitted that they were excited because they met with Indonesian representative athletes a week before the competition. Therefore, they can discuss and evaluate each other. In addition, Qonit is also grateful to compete with other ASEAN youths at AUG. She and her team were able to learn new insights and techniques from other countries.

She and her team are also grateful to UMM for always supporting their various activities. It is not just about the financial aspect but also the mental and motivational factors that always encourage them to do better. In addition, they are also grateful to participate in the Tapak Suci student club, which teaches many techniques, togetherness, and many connections.

In addition, Qonit and the team hope that the youth, especially UMM students, will dare to take the opportunity to compete in various competitions. Even though the main task is to study, it does not hinder the potential and talents they have. In fact, the youth should be able to manage their time and have academic and non-academic achievements.

"Especially if there is an opportunity to dive and fight in international competitions like this AUG, Hopefully there will be many other students who will be able to make the UMM campus proud in regional, national, and even international events," she concluded.

This achievement was also appreciated by UMM Vice Rector III for Student Affairs, Dr. Nur Subeki, M.T. According to him, the victory is clear evidence that the student activities provided by the White Campus are able to maximize the potential of young people. Moreover, UMM also supports various aspects to make it easier for its students to win competitions.

"Achieving a gold medal in an international event like AUG is very proud. Hopefully, in the future, there will be more students who can make the campus proud at various events. Not only in academic and non-academic fields. Moreover, UMM has provided more than 60 student activity units and intra-institutions that young people can try," she concluded. (Wil/Put)
