FAI UMM Talks About The Challenges of Post-Pandemic Islamic Studies

University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) held an international webinar and discussed Islamic Studies in the Post-Pandemic Covid-19 Era: Challenges and Critical Issues was divided into two sessions. This event was organized by the Faculty of Islamic (FAI) on Tuesday (31/8).
The international webinar also invited experts from various countries. Some of them Assoc. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali from The University of California Riverside-USA and. Prof. Dr. Moncef Ben Abdel Jelel from The University De Saosa, Tunisia, and Prof. Dr. Nadirsyah Hosen from Monash University- Australia. Also present as a keynote speaker, Datin Prof. Dr. Rayhanah Bt Abdullah from the University of Malaya. In addition, there were also experts from UMM such as Prof. Dr. Syamsul Arifin, M.Sc., Dr. Pradana Boy ZTF, Dr. Judge's Grace. M.MA . and Dr. Abdul Haris, MA.
Opening the event, Prof. Dr. Tobroni, M.Si as the dean of FAI UMM, considered that the pandemic also impacted the development of Islamic studies. He explained that the study of Islamic studies still revolves around what is happening during the pandemic. This is really needed by academics to be used as scientific references.
Meanwhile, Muhammad Ali, in his presentation, explained about Islamic Studies in America. Islam is studied by Muslims and non-Muslims. For non-Muslims, they want to know more, understand, and appreciate the real Islam. Therefore, various Islamic educational institutions can be found there.
"This Islamic study is expected to produce Muslims who understand Islam better. In addition, it can also provide good relations between Muslims and organizations. It is also broader to seek good relations with non-Muslims," he added.
On the same occasion, Moncef explained the multi-layered teaching of Arabic in the Muslim region. Online education has become a challenge in the pandemic era, such as interactive curriculum, accessibility, educator and student ability, and decent technology. However, he thanked UMM for providing two methods of teaching Arabic, which is claimed effectively.
