The academic community of Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) has once again achieved success. This time, two students from the UMM Faculty of Medicine, Juwita Rahmaningtyas and Agung Cendekia Putra Nusantara, won third place in the national essay competition “Axonic” in the last October.
Juwita, as she is commonly called, explained that she and her team raised the theme of the synergy between sports and mental health towards Indonesia's golden generation in 2045. Their essay focused on how Taekwondo can affect its athletes, especially in terms of psychological and mental aspects.

They chose this topic because they were intrigued by the concept of catharsis, a phenomenon where individuals release emotions during physical activities, particularly in intense sports like Taekwondo.
"This is an interesting subject because it turns out that physical and mental health are closely connected. We chose Taekwondo because this sport is physically demanding and involves many movements, so the effects on the athletes are more apparent," said the third-semester student.
Juwita added that practicing Taekwondo not only helps one control their emotions but also strengthens physical endurance. Moreover, it can train individuals to maintain their mental health, especially in today's digital world, which is filled with pressures.

She and Agung hope that their essay will inspire the public, especially young people, to engage in physical activities and exercise. Not only does sports improve physical health, but it also provides positive effects on mental and psychological well-being. As the saying goes, "A healthy body is a strong soul."
"Hopefully, this will inspire other young people and offer ideas and innovations for the good of the nation. This achievement is also expected to fuel my motivation to continue to bring pride to UMM. Especially since the campus has been very supportive of the potential of its students," she concluded. (*/wil/fajr)
