Since the Merdeka Learning Campus Merdeka (MBKM) policy in 2020, universities in Indonesia are required to provide space for students to add additional competencies. Both are soft and hard skills by participating in the existing MBKM program. This was conveyed by the Coordinator of the learning field of the Directorate of Learning and Student Affairs (Belmawa) of the Directorate General of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education and Culture, Dewi Wulandari, at the Technical Guidance of the Independent Learning Program for the Independent Campus of Non-Vocational Colleges. The event was attended by 50 representative lecturers from various universities in the LLDIKTI VII Region of East Java last Saturday (20/8), which took place in the BAU Hall.
Through MBKM, students in Indonesia can take programs that match their talents and interests. These programs include campus teaching, internships, independent studies, research and research, and independent student exchanges to the Indonesia International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA). Therefore, universities are obligated to provide facilities to their students so they can participate in MBKM learning.

"Interestingly, the MBKM activities can later be converted into semester credit units (SKS) or aligned to the study program curriculum. Unfortunately, many study programs still have difficulty and confusion in doing so. So, Belmawa, together with UMM, took the initiative to provide technical guidance and assistance to universities in Indonesia in helping lecturers design a curriculum that is adapted to the MBKM program. So that student who takes part in the MBKM program do not feel disadvantaged," explained Dewi.
Dewi said Indonesia is a country that has many study programs, almost 4,500 study programs are registered at Dikti. So, it will carry out this assistance in stages. According to him, the results will be less than optimal if it is directly given to thousands of study programs at once. Therefore, Belmawa limits the number of study programs that participate, which is as many as 50 study programs.

On the other hand, UMM Chancellor Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd, considered that this assistance could strengthen curriculum development. It is mainly oriented on teaching students to learn according to their passion. Fauzan also explained that UMM is currently designing a formula that has accessibility and is suitable for this century.
"One of our efforts is to create a Center for Future of Works (CFW) program, which is a center for developing future skills. One of the implementations of this program is the establishment of dozens of Centers of Excellence (CoE) at UMM. So far, educational products in Indonesia still have low relevance to world demands. Therefore, UMM took the initiative to form this CoE school so that graduates from the White Campus can have skills that are by what is needed by the market, "said Fauzan. (apg/zak/wil)
