Another proud news come from University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM). This time, a lineup of UMM student teams has reached the finals of the 2024 KMI Expo. Among the highlights is Embik Eco Green Farm, established in 2018, which now has six branches across Malang. Lukman Hakim Arifin, an Agribusiness student and the team leader, successfully took this business to Kendari, Central Sulawesi, to participate in the KMI Expo at the end of October.

Lukman wasn’t alone; he was accompanied by Anastya Rifa Wardhani, Cobain Aprilliano, and Denny Dwi Ariza. Embik Eco Green Farm has three main products, including goat meat, fertilizer made from goat waste rich in potassium, and goat milk. Lukman explained that he started building this business from his early days in college, later expanding it to include milk and fertilizer. Interestingly, the goat milk produced is high in omega-3, as confirmed by verified lab tests from SIG, and it has no goat-like odor at all. This unique quality has attracted many partners and resellers to join the business.

“This milk has no goat odor, which buyers and sellers both appreciate. Many resellers have joined us, helping to expand our business further. We are currently working on adding new flavors to offer more variety,” he said.

He noted that using goat meat for food is common, but turning goat waste into potassium-rich fertilizer is something unique. This fertilizer can accelerate plant growth. Typically, farmers prefer to dispose of goat waste rather than utilize it.

Lukman also shared the challenges he faced in managing this business. He mentioned that many people dislike the goat odor, especially in goat milk products, which sometimes leads to a drop in demand. However, with support from UMM's Student Business Development Program (P2MW) and the university, this challenge was addressed. The goat milk product has once again gained popularity among the public.

"Hopefully, the products from Embik can be well received by consumers. Currently, we are also expanding our business network so that our milk products can be marketed throughout Indonesia. The same goes for the fertilizer we produce, which we hope can help farmers," he said. (zaf/wil/ind)
